Instruments of Connection

(Bodies Meet Music)

Workshop offered by

Mayıs Rukel and Sarthak Dhungana (Maitri Music Therapy Nepal)

In collaboration with Taragaon Next and Sattya Collective

March 11, 2026, Taragaon Next

Kathmandu, Nepal

What shape does yearning take?

What gesture communicates affection?

Does grief have a melody?

What does tenderness ask of the body?

On March 11, 2026, we gathered in Taragaon Next to explore layers of movement, gesture, memory through music; grounded in the original music of Mayıs Rukel's feature film Movement Song, composed by Patrick Walinga.
We moved our bodies as instruments of connection as we explored the themes of the film.

Participant Reflections

Suprina:
It’s always such a pleasure to work with Mayıs, and I’m truly grateful I had the chance to join this workshop. From the moment I entered the space, I felt welcomed and seen, which made it easy to relax and fully ground myself in the experience.
It was beautiful to witness how movement, music, and human connection can come together to tell such deep and meaningful stories. The way you facilitated the space felt very natural and supportive, allowing everyone to explore at their own pace while still feeling connected as a group.
This workshop left me feeling inspired to be more present, more open, and more expressive, both in movement and in everyday life. It really stayed with me in a very positive way. Thank you for creating such a warm and meaningful space.

Ruby:
The workshop was a truly beautiful and grounding experience for me. The way you guided us through music, movement, and emotions especially through the musical piece from your movie felt both freeing and deeply reflective. I appreciated your facilitation style; it was gentle, intuitive, and created a safe space to express without judgment. It allowed me to connect with myself in a more embodied and mindful way. I’m really grateful to have been part of it, and it’s something that has stayed with me even after the session:) Also, safe journey, see ya again.

Aaja:
The workshop was overall a good experience. I felt grounded with the music and body movements. Sharing stories and doing activities with people made me realize how important it is to be a part of community. Although the warm up could have been longer, few more games, to get more comfortable. Amazing. Thank you for the experience. Also, we could have had a snack break lol food always brings people closer.
