Radical Roots
Soil and Seeds: Vandana Shiva

KABK
2022
In collaboration with Sankrit Kulmanochawong
Comissioned by KABK Studium Generale

With the invitation of Victoria McKenzie and Erika Sprey, we brought Radical Roots to the KABK Studium Generale: Earthcraft. On December 1st, Vandana Shiva joined us in conversation with Victoria and Jasper.

Using food harvested from Pluk! and Garden Department, Sankrit Kulmanochawong created a farm-landscape food installation composed of nasturtium, arugula, romaine lettuce, pak choi, edible soil, roasted kale varieties, sourdough, fatteh, rice and tapioca crisps, eggplant galettes de sarrasin, and hummus.

The installation centered around multiple sources of grain-based nourishment, forming a patchwork field of textures and colors. Eaten from the top layer down, it gradually revealed ingredients that evoked layers of vegetation, organic matter, and living soil.
