Radical Roots is a community building artistic project co-facilitated by Mayıs Rukel and Lina Bravo Mora, in collaboration with residents of asylum seeker centers across the Netherlands. Commissioned and supported by Stichting de Vrolijkheid, the project centers food, storytelling, and publication as practices of radical care; care from the roots.

"Radical Roots invites wonderers, migrants, travelers, and seekers of a better life to gather around a portable cooking table, honoring that we all carry wisdom, that we can teach each other. It is a space to remember and create new memories through smell, taste, sound, touch, and sight. As migrants, we want to create spaces of belonging for other migrants who have left their countries due to injustice. We seek to build transformative spaces for rest, creativity, and radical tenderness. We all deserve it!"
Lina Bravo Mora

Radical Roots moves with the choreographies of cooking. It invites the risks and joys of being in relation, and the possibilities that emerge when we gather with care.

The first edition of Radical Roots took place at the Asylum Seeker Center (AZC) Amsterdam in the summer of 2022 and continues to grow through workshops, meals, and publications across AZCs in the Netherlands.
